Understanding Allergens and Dietary Preferences
Updated over a week ago

Applicable for UK schools.

How Allergens Work:

Managing allergens is crucial to ensuring that your meals are safe. Here’s how the allergen process works:

Step 1: Setting Allergens in Your Profile:

  1. Go to Settings: To set your allergens, navigate to your profile, click on Settings > Allergens.

  2. Allergen Settings Impact: When you select an allergen, the recurring order function will be disabled, and the "Set Recurring Orders" button will no longer be accessible. This ensures individual orders are processed, as allergens can change weekly, allowing for a more accurate selection.

Step 2: Approval of Your Allergen:

Once you add an allergen to your profile, you’ll see a limited menu that excludes all meals containing the allergens you’ve set. This means that all allergens will be filtered out.

  • Medical Document Upload: To activate your allergen settings, you’ll need to upload a medical document confirming your specific allergen. Simply click on your profile icon in the top right corner and select "Medical Document Upload" to submit your document.

Step 3: After Your Allergen is Approved:

Once your medical document is approved, you'll have access to a wider menu, including allergen-aware meals. However, the menu will still be filtered based on your allergen. For example, if milk is one of your allergens, all meals containing milk will be excluded from your options.

Important Notes:

  • Desserts: Desserts will still be visible in your menu, so it’s important to double-check that any allergens, such as milk, are not present in desserts if you are allergic to them.

Managing Dietary Preferences:

Dietary preferences allow you to filter meals based on your lifestyle or dietary needs, such as vegan, halal, or vegetarian. Here's how to set and manage your preferences:

Step 1: Setting Dietary Preferences:

  1. Access Dietary Preferences: Click on your profile icon and select Dietary Preferences.

  2. Choose Your Preferences: You can choose from options like Vegan, Halal, or Vegetarian. Once selected, these preferences will be automatically applied as a filter whenever you place an order.

How Filters Work:

  • Halal: If you choose Halal, only meals tagged as Halal will be shown.

  • Vegan: If you select Vegan, only meals tagged as Vegan will appear.

  • Vegetarian: If you opt for Vegetarian, only vegetarian meals will be visible.

Important Consideration:

  • Halal Meals: If you select Halal, the system will only display meals tagged by the caterer as Halal, even if some meals are technically suitable for halal eaters (e.g., vegan meals). Ensure that you only select meals tagged as Halalto meet your dietary needs.

Reapplying Filters:

If you update your dietary preferences, you can easily reapply the filter to ensure your menu reflects your new choices.
